ABOUT US

Blink Theatre explore the aspects of the human mind through physical performance.

 

Blink Theatre are dedicated to raising awareness of important issues and provoking emotion and discussion amongst audiences. The work created focuses on mental health, mindfulness and the unconscious.

Through pushing the bodies boundaries, Blink explore interesting and diverse forms of movement. Their involvement with Tmesis physical theatre company inspired an injection of playfulness and improvisation to their work. Other influences such as Pina Bausch and Martha Graham allowed Blink to develop their own angular, abstract and distorted form of dance language.

Blink are currently exploring mindfulness and mental health in education and are excited to be working closely with a range of ages and abilities.

 

The company was founded by Ellie Woodhouse and Jack Holland and is currently based in Preston/ Liverpool.

Artistic Director

Ellie Woodhouse has recently graduated from the University of Central Lancashire with a First Class BA Hons Degree in Contemporary Theatre and Performance, during this time she trained in devising innovative, multi-disciplinary performances and installations. Ellie’s research delves into; play and performance, disability and performance and mental health and performance. These areas are the foundations and inspirations for current and future works, this research is explored, transformed and delivered through the use of body, visual and text. Ellie’s goal for Blink Theatre Company is to collaborate with a multitude of diverse artists, organisations, communities and schools in order to improve, educate and explore mental wellbeing through workshops and performances.

Associate Artist

Erica Wadsworth is in her final year at the University of Central Lancashire, studying Contemporary Theatre and Performance. She began to work with Blink as a freelance artist for their Mental Health Awareness Day project and was a member of the ensemble in Introspection. Since then, Erica has continued research in; mental health and performance, disability and performance and education and performance. She currently volunteers in care homes and is a valued member in the Preston community. Erica’s goal for Blink Theatre Company is to explore how mental health and wellbeing can be improved in schools and communities.
